College Education - Is it worth it?

Today, my friend Denise and I ran down to San Jose to move my oldest out of the dorm. The elevators were really slow. Everyone was moving out.  We were standing there waiting and waiting. Another student joined the wait.

Then another girl came up to us and asked us something like  "Where is the third floor and how do you get there?" The other student with us said "Its between the fourth (we were on the fourth) floor and the second. You take the elevator."

Then she looked over at us and rolled her eyes.  "Duh"  We smiled with her and thought about the clueless one - One year down and you learned where the third floor was. Good job.

Last Time

Today will be the last time. After 14 years.

For 14 years, I have been getting up to either take my kids to school in the morning or now that they drive, saying "Goodbye, Drive Safe, Love You" at the door.

Today, I will drive my last girl to school for the last time. (She isn't driving today because it is grad night and we don't want to leave her car at school overnight.)

Where did the time go?

Cupcakes

Every time I turn around, one of my girls is making cupcakes for this school friend's birthday, French club, lacrosse bonding party, etc. etc.  These cupcake sessions are winding down as my last girl is graduating high school next week.

They have perfected the cupcake.  They are now multi-layers and multi-colors.

I think it is like eating a circus!

Ice

Our family loves ice! Ice in everything! We go through a lot of ice!

Our office is next door to our house. We have a big fridge there with an icemaker and then our fridge in the house has an ice maker. During holidays, our extended family always walk in the door with more ice.
I told you my familiy loves ice.

So a couple of years a ago, our office fridge stopped making ice. No big deal, we called the repairman. His conclusion was that he couldn't fix it and we needed a new fridge. So we got to shopping, we get a new one for the house and move the old one to the office. Fitting a new one into our kitchen isn't an easy task. I won't go into it here but we finally found one that would fit. Okay so we are ready to buy the new fridge. Then that fridge all of a sudden starts making ice again!

Okay no new fridge. So we go along for a few months and the kitchen fridge stops working all together. Repairman comes out again and we have our fingers crossed. New fridge, new fridge we chant. (See we have a home warranty agreement on this one - if it can't be fixed they replace it). Well after 2 weeks of using the office fridge, coolers, the beer fridge and having the girls pick up ice on their way home from school, the kitchen fridge is repaired.

Then it starts, no ice, then ice in both fridges. Back and forth. Through Thanksgiving, Christmas, Easter. Girls buying ice on their way home from school. The big bags of ice. See we have a new home warranty agreement where they will pay for the icemaker to be repaired. But it doesn;'t go into effect until May 6.  The first part of May, I am sitting in the living room beading. it is quiet and all of a sudden I hear plop and gears moving. The kitchen fridge is now making ice like crazy!
Lots of ice!  We are holding our breaths that it keep at it.

All this to tell you that I am adding  "Ice Beads" to the shop.

Thanks for listening to my long drawn out story.

Please Do Not Ring (the) Corn?

What do you mean?

Okay. I'm not very musically inclined.

Thank you Kate!

I big thank you to Kate McKinnon!

Thank you for mentioning my Project Tin on your

Kate and Jean Power have a new book coming out this summer.
It explores structural beadwork at it's best. Amazing.
I have preordered it and can't wait until it shows up on my doorstep.

I like the feeling of expecting something in the mail other than bills and ads.

Thanks for listening.

We Had Fun At The Bead Bazaar!

Thanks to all that came by our booth at the Bead Bazaar this last weekend.  We had so much fun talking beads and beading, seeing my students, talking about future classes.

More Beads

Our table was overflowing with Beads and Steampunk Treasures.

It was a weekend of change for the Daughters and me. Well, mostly me.  They have been helping me at every show we have done since we started.  They were just little. Now I have one daughter at San Jose State and in the fall the other one will be off to the University of Hawaii Manoa.  So she won't be helping out as often.  I tear up just thinking about that. Don't get me wrong. I am very excited for her but will miss her terribly. The first one leaving was tough but she is close enough to still show up on our doorstep within an hour. I appreciate them so much!

If you came by the booth, thank you bunches.  If you saw something that now you regret not getting, send me an email or give me a call and we will get it off to you.

Thanks for listening.

Look at what my students did!

My Benicia Bead students worked hard on their tribal claw pieces.  A few nervous stitches and tear outs to start but we got over that. They turned out great!

I'm looking for more students that would like to take this class.  Any takers?

Thanks for listening.
